‘An Afternoon In Italy’ Baby Shower

How sweet is this?

Last Saturday, I attended “An Afternoon in Italy” Baby Shower in celebration of a close friend, pictured above, who is expecting her first child — a little girl! — at the end of December.

The setting was completely charming! My friends who hosted did a stunning job transforming one of their backyards into a beautiful space reminiscent of an Italian trattoria.

The afternoon was complete with Italian music, delectable homemade and catered Italian bites…

Bellinis, vino, champagne, and Pelligrino…

{On a side note: How cute is that watermelon-baby buggy?! And how about that homemade chalkboard? I made it out of an Ikea picture frame and a can of chalkboard spray paint :) }

And gifts and games! My favorite game was trying to guess the name of the famous baby mama stuck on your back. It’s a great ice breaker if not everyone knows each other. I FINALLY guessed mine after deducing that my celeb was blonde, around 30, married, not an actress, not a model, not a singer, that she is seen in magazines like Us Weekly and People, and not on reality TV but her dad is — Can you guess who?!

We played two other games throughout the afternoon. In keeping with the Italian theme, the winners each won a bottle of wine. One game was to estimate the number of taffy pieces in a glass jar, and the other was to determine who carried around everything but their kitchen sink/the most useful stuff in their handbag. To determine the winner for the latter, a pen was handed to each guest along with a piece of paper listing 50 items. Anything from a toothbrush to a calculator, rubber band, and safety pin. If you had it in your bag, you got a point. I had a teeny tiny handbag with me that day so I got two points since my smart phone counted as a calculator and a camera. Someone (with a big bag) got 38/50! I didn’t walk away empty-handed, though. All guests received a cute little jar of cocoa butter with the event name and date engraved on the top!

Finally, I just have to share that as gifts were being opened, one of the gals sitting directly next to me whom I had never met before pulled out a Marmont Nursing Cover and started nursing her baby! …Of course I had to say something and she was kind enough to allow me to take photos even after I warned that they might end up here or on our Bebe au Lait Facebook page :)

Have you attended a baby shower recently? What’s your favorite baby shower game?

Bebe au Lait Team Building Event

Throughout the year, the owners of Bebe au Lait host an array of company-wide events. In the past we’ve played bocce, bowled, raced go-karts, picnicked in the park, and gone to a hockey game. While the events are not mandatory, all employees are encouraged to attend if possible for the team building value of such social events. We try throughout the year to arrange events that appeal to most, but the main reason is to spend some fun downtime together outside of the office!

This past Friday, our Bebe au Lait offices closed early to allow the entire company time to travel via carpool to San Francisco to attend the Giants v. A’s at AT&T Park! That’s San Francisco Giants and Oakland Athletics, our two MLB Bay Area teams. Prior to the first pitch thrown, Ronnie and Claire, the owners of Bebe au Lait, treated everyone to happy hour and a catered BBQ dinner on the Club Terrace. A few prizes were also raffled off! The terrace as well as our seats were outdoors overlooking the water and offered spectacular views of the Bay Bridge. However, if you’ve been to San Francisco, you know it’s freezing no matter what time of the year it is once the sun goes down… I believe it was Mark Twain who said, “The coldest winter I ever experienced was a Summer in San Francisco.” — HA! Fortunately, this was also SNUGGIE NIGHT! The first 20,000 fans attending the game received a complimentary Giants “wearable blanket.” :D

What types of company events have you participated in or organized?

Mama Monday – Girls Night out (at home)!

When was the last time you had a date night with your girlfriends? Can you remember? Now with two kiddos myself, I find that it can be challenging to find the time to get together with my girls but when I do I feel like a better everything!

Here is the solution that my girlfriends and I came up with. I hope you try it – let me know what you like to do with your ladies night out (even if it does end up on the couch)!

What my girlfriends and I do to get some time together and not spend a fortune? We rotate houses! (Real rocket science here – sorry if you were looking for an insanely incredible idea, you have to admit that it does make it easy.) Sometimes we bring the kids to each other’s houses or other nights we leave them with their daddies.  You can also all meet at one house and split the cost of a babysitter. There is a great article (click here) that gives you some ideas about hosting girls night at your house.

Whatever you do, just make sure you make girl time a priority – you deserve it!
