Fashion Friday – Winter, Family-style

Written By: Amanda C.

As a former east coaster, I have LOTS of experience with cold. And the way that I used to combat the cold was to bundle up with a hoodie, a  water-proof, wind-proof ski coat over that, gloves, a hat, a scarf wrapped all the way up to my eyes sometimes and big snow boots. And all of those items didn’t necessary match either. Not exactly a fashion statement, right?

Well leave it to Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady to manage to do cold-weather in style. Check out this fashion-forward family out and about in the cold Boston Winter. Gorgeous coat and scarf? Check. Matching sunglasses and boots? Check. Super cute baby decked our in adorable winter sweater? Check Check. Perfect Winter style in my book!

Fashion Friday – Celebrity Mommy Style

Written By: Amanda C.

Fashion never came that easy for me. Literally as far back as I can remember, I was wearing mismatched socks or pants that didn’t necessarily “go” with my shirt. Once I hit my teenage years, though, I started looking to others for “inspiration”, sometimes from friends, sometimes from celebrities or fashion magazines, which led to  more than a few fashion missteps – trends that I thought were cool, but now in hindsight, definitely were not.

Now that I’m someone’s Mom, it’s a bit of a conundrum– I know its important to me to look the part of a cool mom (at least once my girl starts going to school), but I’m SO SO busy, I don’t really have time to think about it. Kind of a dilemma right? And then I see celeb moms who just get it right, and make it look effortless, which makes me think- “I could do that… I could be that well put together, if I just planned a little bit”.  Well, this year I’m really going to try it.

Gwen Stefani Mommy StyleSo who’s going to be my celeb mom inspiration? There really are many to choose from. There’s Gwen Stefani- who has managed to remain the coolest chick around, even after two babies. She’s a rockstar in real life, and always looks the part- even when hanging with her kiddos at the park. As much as I wish I was that cool though, I’m not sure I could pull that off even with all the time in the world to plan.

Then there’s Katie Holmes, who manages to look sophisticated in literally every picture I’ve seen of her– perfectly tailored designer fashions, always in-season.

The more I think about it, I think that the celeb Mom style that would work the best for me, at least some of the time anyway, would be Jennifer Garner, or Jessica Alba. Always appropriate for the occasion, always well-put-together, even when going casual, always classic and classy. And, they look comfortable– which to me, is most important. Yes- I’ve settled on it then. And there’s my New Year’s resolution. To be as well put together as a celeb mom, 50% of the time… and to train for a 5K.

What’s your Mommy style? Do you have a favorite celebrity who inspires you, or do you do your own thing?

Fashion Friday – Dressing Your Bump for Holiday Parties

Written By: Amanda C.

Linda Caredllini Black Dress Baby BumpI really do believe there’s nothing more beautiful than an expectant mom. That’s just as true when she’s wearing comfy, casual and cute maternity fashions as when she’s glamming it up. For this Fashion Friday- we want to know how you’re dressing your baby bump this holiday season. Are you keeping it casual or going all out?

Personally, I kept it casual most of the time while I was in my last trimester.  Since I was due in November, I didn’t have any holiday parties to attend while pregnant. The little black dress I saw Linda Cardellini wear last week made me wish I had though! What a perfect way to show off her baby bump- check out the article on people.com.

So ladies- what are your go-to holiday outfits going to be?

Oscar Party?

Written By: Samara H.

Have you ever been to one or hosted one? I was invited to one by a friend last year but was in that awful, first trimester, so tired and nauseous that I could hardly get through the day. The thought of trying to get dressed fancy and go to a party was too much! BUT, I really wished that I had gone and it sounded like an amazing party! She even did the red carpet leading up to her entry with “paparazzi” to take your picture while you struck a pose.

Since the Oscars are coming up this Sunday, February 27th (8/5P) on ABC, I thought it would be fun to brainstorm about throwing your own Oscar party!

First, have you seen all the movies that are up for a nomination? You can go here to get the complete list. And see how many of the movies you can see between now and Sunday – ready, go!

Now, we just need to figure out decorations, drinks, food and any additional entertainment!

Decorations: I talked about the “red carpet”, which you can use a plastic red tablecloth and then maybe some gold stars along the “carpet” or hanging from above.  If you have a friend to photograph that will definitely set the mood.

The Oscars website has a great resource from what to serve to how to engage your party goers, think that the Oscar ballots are a must!

Movie-themed foods:
Black Swan: to be a touch ironic – Marble Cake
Inception: Three Kings Cake – your choice of what to “hide inside”
The King’s Speech: Bangers & Mash
The Social Network: Mini-pizzas
Winter’s Bone: Squirrel “chicken” wings

Here is a great resource for all things Oscar party!

Let us know if you host/go to an Oscar party and let us know your favorite part!

Award Season is here!

Written By: Samara H.

It’s that time of year again! The award season has kicked off to a great start with the Golden Globes. We loved seeing a radiant Natalie Portman, stylish Rachel Zoe and beaming Jane Krakowski It is great to see celebrities proudly showing their baby bump while still looking like a million bucks…oh to be a celebrity!

You know what else is great about the award shows? Well, for the celebrities. The great swag that they all receive for attending the show, there are reports that each bag was worth $85,000 last year!!! Unfortunately, we can’t offer that but read through this posting and you might be in for a chance at a little swag yourself.

It certainly has been the year of the baby boom. It seems every day there is a new baby bump sighting – hard to keep up with all of it.  Just this week we are awaiting the birth of Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem’s bundle and next week Christina Applegate is due…stay tuned!

Today they are announcing the Oscar nominations…word on the street is Natalie Portman will be nominated for Black Swan. How fun if a pregnant mama won, we are keeping our fingers crossed for her! For some, the Oscars are comparable to the Superbowl – do you have your party planned yet? Where else can you find all the celebrities, the best movies of the year and fashion, fashion, fashion! Mark your calendars, the Oscars are going to be airing Sunday February 27th

And with all this talk of awards and nominations it got us thinking about the Cribsie Awards, which is going on now! The Cribsies are like the Oscars of parenting! It gives moms and caretakers the unique opportunity to “nominate” all the fantastic products, services and gear that you can’t live without. With all that being said, we would love it if you nominate any of your favorite Bebe au Lait products! And all you have to do is go to Cribsieawards.com and fill out the simple form. AND, if you do nominate us for a Cribsie, come back to this blog and comment which product you nominated us for! We’ll choose one winner and you will receive that product!  Nominations for the Cribsies end February 4th!

Angelina Jolie Breastfeeding

Written By: Rachael S.

As a mother of twins, I can tell you with 100% assurance that it is not easy to keep up with breast-fed babies who are on the same feeding schedules. And as a mother of now 3-year old twins who are so healthy in many ways, I can say with 100% assurance that it’s worth it and I’m thankful (with extra thanks to Renee my post-natal doula) that I could make it all work for them because it was challenging in many ways. So here’s kudos to Angelina Jolie who is apparently not only breastfeeding Knox and Vivienne but also promoting it.
