What’s for Dinner Wednesday – Homemade Pizza!

One of the dinners that my daughter and I love to cook together is pizza! I get the roll yourself dough from Trader Joe’s – they have three types: plain, whole wheat and garlic & herb….we typically rotate between all three (the garlic & herb is mild enough for the three year old too).

Last night we had some friends over to have a “pizza off”! Each of us brought our own ingredients and I had picked up two types dough, whole wheat and garlic & herb.

Whole Crust
Red Pizza Sauce (Trader Joe brand)
Quesillo (Mexican cheese that is typically used in quesadillas)
Black Olives
Mushrooms
Tomatoes
Goat Cheese

Garlic & Herb Crust
Fig Spread (Trader Joes)
Roasted Red Peppers
Chicken Sausage (sliced)
Quesillo (Mexican cheese that is typically used in quesadillas) – they added their cheese to the top

We were all so hungry by the time it was done that I didn’t get a picture of either of them but let me tell you they both were delicious!

What are your favorite pizza toppings?

3.15.11: The Second Time Around

It is so different the second time around when having children! I was much more relaxed in my pregnancy and felt less afraid of “what was going to happen”.  You wonder what it will be like with having two children, everyone tells you it is not double the work but ten times the work…so far it just feels like double the work but she is only six months. We are still in the honeymoon period…she isn’t crawling yet – but she is close!

With my first daughter, you feel so proud and want them to be making all the milestones and early even! I wanted to make sure that she was crawling, walking, talking at all the appropriate times and even encouraged her to hit these marks. The second time around…it’s different! You now know that as soon as they are crawling/walking that the honeymoon will officially be over.

I am definitely proud of the baby but I can’t believe that she is almost crawling already…she has been getting on her hands and knees and scooting backwards for a couple of weeks now! Everyone told me that the second one would do everything sooner than her sister, I just didn’t realize how much sooner! I realized the other night that the reason she must be doing everything faster. One she is in love with her big sister already and is trying to mimic and two, I have had to put her down on the floor much sooner and for longer periods than I did with my eldest.

How you can feel so different about the same milestones with your children? The first one you want them to do everything right away and the second one you want them to slow down. I think this might be some good insight for me to be cautious in my parenting of them.

Do you find yourself parenting your children differently, not just by who they are but by their birth position?

3.9.11: What’s for dinner Wednesday – My Ode to Montreal Steak Seasoning!

I love to dash you here and there

You go just about anywhere

Chicken, turkey and some steak

You make my meats marinate

How I wish I could just add ya

To my favorite ensalada

I will have to settle then

For a dash every now and then

3.8.11: Traveling Tuesday – Babymoon

I don’t remember when I first heard about a Babymoon but I instantly fell in love with the idea and when I was pregnant with my first daughter explained to my husband that it was an absolute MUST.

A little background, from Wikipedia: A Babymoon is a period of time that parents spend bonding with a recently-born baby. More recently the term has come to be used to describe a vacation taken by a couple that is expecting a baby in order to allow the couple to enjoy a final trip together before the many sleepless nights that usually accompany a newborn baby. Babymoons usually take place at a resort that offers appropriate services like prenatal massage.

I did some research and found a quaint little B&B in the wine country that offered prenatal massages and various treatments – plus a golf course close by that would help entice the husband. We went toward the end of my second trimester (I was about 6 ½ months pregnant) – not feeling sick anymore and not feeling like a hippo yet. We had a fantastic time! It was just for the weekend and we drove up on Friday and had a wonderful dinner. On Saturday I enjoyed treatments while he played a round of golf – best of both worlds for us.  We took a nap and had another amazing dinner. I thought it would be so good for us to just spend some time together, of course all we talked about was the baby that was coming but at least we were together.

There is a website dedicated to helping others plan Babymoons – I thought it might be helpful if you want to plan one also….click here! I don’t know anything about this website but they looked to be the most comprehensive, I didn’t use them when planning ours.

We had our second daughter last year and we just couldn’t find the time to get away with our eldest daughter, work, etc.  I wish we would have taken the time to do it – even a day Babymoon would have been nice. Our five year anniversary is next year; maybe I will start working on a second honeymoon…
